Now’s the Time to Book Your Wedding Catering: Here’s Why Street Food Is Stealing the Show

If you’re planning a wedding and you want something a bit different from the usual sit-down three-course meal, now is the perfect time to start thinking about your catering.

More and more couples are ditching the formal dining and choosing something fun, relaxed and full of personality. And that’s exactly where street food weddings shine.

At The Flavour Fleet, we’re seeing couples book earlier and earlier, especially for dates between May and September.

So if you’ve got a venue with outdoor space and you like the idea of great food, happy guests and a much more exciting atmosphere, here’s why now’s the moment to get things moving.

Why street food weddings are becoming so popular

1. It’s a lot more fun than a formal sit-down

Let’s be honest. Most guests remember the music, the dancing and the laughs. They don’t usually remember the chicken breast with two veg.

Street food brings energy. It gets people chatting. It creates a buzz. And it makes your wedding feel unique rather than “just another one”.

2. It’s usually much more affordable

Traditional wedding catering can eat up a huge chunk of your budget. Hiring one or two of our units is not only more cost-effective, but you get top quality food that feels special without the price tag of hotel catering.

3. The choice is incredible

You don’t have to stick to one menu. Want hearty meatballs from the Ball Box? Sorted. Fancy Lishman’s sausages sizzling away for a proper Yorkshire feed? Easy.

Got loads of guests? Have both.

Most couples also add the Prosecco Van or the Bar Box so we can cover drinks, cocktails and all the bits that keep the day flowing.

4. It fits beautifully with outdoor venues

Barns, woodland venues, tipis, private gardens, festival-style weddings… street food fits them all. If there’s outdoor space, we can serve. And we look the part too. The units make brilliant backdrops for photos and add charm to your setup.

Things to think about when booking outdoor wedding catering

To keep your day running smooth, here are a few things to consider:

1. Space for the units

We don’t need loads, but we do need clear access and a fairly level area to set up. If you’re not sure, send us a picture or ask your venue. We deal with this all the time.

2. Timings

Most couples choose us for their main meal or evening food. If you want us to serve twice, we can do that too. We’ll help you plan timings so there are no long queues and everything stays hot and fresh.

3. Dietary needs

One thing that makes us stand out is that we look after everyone. Vegan, veggie, gluten free and kids meals. We do the lot. You don’t need to coordinate anything separately.

4. Power and water

Some venues provide it. Some don’t. Either way, we’ll talk you through what’s needed. We’re very used to working in fields, barns and open spaces. There’s always a solution.

5. Guest numbers

If you’ve got a big crowd, we can bring more than one unit to keep service quick and smooth.

What we recommend for wedding catering

Most weddings go for this winning combination:

• One food unit

The Ball Box or Sausage Box, depending on your vibe.

• One drinks unit

The Bar Box for the full range, or the Prosecco Van for something cute and photo-friendly.

For big weddings, couples often book both food units and the Bar Box to keep queues short and the energy high.

Whatever your numbers, we’ll guide you to the best setup.

So… what should you do next?

If your date is between May and September 2026, now is the time to book. Weddings fill up fast because we’re also out at festivals and big events during the summer.

Here’s how to get things moving:

  1. Tell us your date and venue

  2. Let us know how many guests you’re expecting

  3. Share any vibes or ideas you’ve got for the day

  4. We’ll send you options that fit your style, space and budget

No stress. No pressure. Just a friendly conversation about how to make your wedding food something guests rave about.
